We always stop at the welcome centers. You can get free maps, hotel and restaurant coupons, plus it is fun and interesting to see how the different states portray themselves. Usually they try to deliver what the visitors expect. Often they can be very creative. Ray Charles music will somehow play in your head as you walk by Georgia's welcome sign.
Florida has without doubt the busiest welcome center we have ever visited. So many people waiting in line for hotel coupons. Lots of helpful staff plus free orange juice.
I just realized that Rhode Island doesn't have a welcome center. Hmm.
